Commissioner Letter

Commissioner's letter to members

Winter 2010

Dear Armonk Baseball League Supporters,

2009 was a banner year for the Armonk Baseball Little League and Travel Baseball programs! I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about who we are, and what we have accomplished.

Armonk Baseball League (ABL) was established in 1952 as a charter of Little League International, the largest organized youth sports program in the world. We are a not for profit organization. Our mission is to provide quality baseball programs for youth aged 5-16 residing in North Castle. ABL is strictly a volunteer effort. Dedicated adults from the community donate their time, energy and knowledge to create great baseball programs for our children!

Highlighted below are some of our recent accomplishments:

*       In 2009, we organized and managed 48 teams, with 602 players, and nearly 150 volunteer coaches. Our 11 member Board of Directors coordinated all scheduling of games, coaches, fields and umpires, procurement of sponsors, uniforms and equipment, and provided a safe environment for our youth to play and enjoy America’s national past time.

*       We offered instructional clinics for players and coaches, featuring professional coaches. This included our Coaches Clinic, Spring and Fall Player Clinics, and the ever popular Summer Baseball Camp.

*       Eleven of our 18 Summer and Fall Travel Teams, with over 250 players and coaches, made it to the playoffs! We sent our first team ever to the Cooperstown Dream Park Tournament, finishing 3-3 in regular tournament play.

*       In April, we hosted the Annual Opening Day Family BBQ in conjunction with the Grand Reopening and Rededication of Clark Field, following the completion of major improvements to the Clark Field facilities, including new drainage, sod, fencing, foul poles, dugouts, and the installation of underground wiring for scoreboards - due to be installed by Opening Day 2010!

*       The 6th Annual Memorial Weekend Baseball Classic, featuring All Star Games, Home Run Derby and baseball & softball competitions attracted nearly 200 athletes. At season’s end, our coaches participated in some fun of their own in the 2nd Annual Coaches Softball Tournament. In addition, we acquired and renovated the former North Castle Recreation Building at Lombardi Park, providing us with a place to hold Board meetings and store equipment.

This year, our capital improvement plans include updating IBM fields #2 and 3 with new fencing, concrete pads, clay, grass, and fiberglass roofing over the dugouts. We will continue to offer the variety of programs described above. In addition, we are proud to announce our support of The Miracle League of Westchester this year, which offers baseball programs for disabled people of all ages.

In order to make our programs accessible to all children in North Castle, ABL raises funds to provide scholarships and equipment to families in need, and also uses donations to support capital improvement efforts and maintain the fields. We are very grateful for your continued support. Visit us at www.armonkbaseball.org.

Be on the lookout for your personal invitation to our Inaugural Grand Slam Celebration, to be held June 18th at Mt. Kisco Country Club!

Sincerely Yours,
